Herbed Lemonade

Herbed Lemonade

Got this idea from a farm box subscription and it’s absolutely awesome. Best lemonade I’ve ever had and that is seconded by my friends. Not sure why this isn’t a more popular thing yet, but you must try it! Tip: you can also do it with iced tea.

INGREDIENTS makes 1 large pitcher

juice of 12 lemons

12 cups water

1 3/4 cups sugar

1 lemon, sliced

1 lemon grass stick, smashed with the flat end of a large knife

4 large sprigs thyme

4 large sprigs mint

4 large sprigs dill

4 large sprigs rosemary

eatable flowers, granish

INSTRUCTIONS

  • juice of 12 lemons
  • 12 cups water
  • 1 3/4 cups sugar

1. Combine the lemon juice, water, and sugar. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.

  • 1 lemon, sliced
  • 1 lemon grass stick, smashed with the flat end of a large knife
  • 4 large sprigs thyme
  • 4 large sprigs mint
  • 4 large sprigs dill
  • 4 large sprigs rosemary

2. Place the lemon slices and lemon grass into the pitcher. Rub or wrinkle the herbs with your hands (to begin releasing some of the oils and flavors) and add then to the lemonade. Place in the fridge for 2 hours to infuse.

  • eatable flowers, granish

3. When ready to serve, add the flowers to the lemonade. If you’re leaving it out and would like the lemonade to stay cool, use a single large ice cube placed in the pitcher. You can make one by freezing a filled water balloon. Using small ice cubes will water down the lemonade and it won’t be as good.
